Teeball Program

T Ball report 9/5/2015

12 May 2015

TBALL has now had three sessions and is shaping as our best year yet. Numbers are nearing 20 each week and there is the prospect of a few more in the coming weeks. The pleasing aspect is not only the returning players but the new ones – some children of current players some who have responded to notices of the program.

Last Saturday we had 17 players (with 3 apologies due to illness) and nine – yes 9! – coaches with senior experience (Steve Williams, Chris Williams, Adrian Rice, David Hair, Dylan Archer, James Holley, Geoff Williams, Ben Utting and Peter Williams). Talk about player to coach ratio!!!!

The sessions are broken into about 30 or 40 minutes of drills where the correct basics of throwing, catching, fielding, batting and base running are taught and then about 40 of 50 minutes of playing. With numbers so high we can run 2 games so each player gets a greater involvement.
Thus far the skill levels are looking quite impressive – especially for a group which is decidedly younger than last year’s. What is even more impressive is the look of this group in their KNOX tops and caps! And of course the after game treats from CANTEEN NANNA SUE are going down as well as ever.

T Ball program for 2014

29 March 2014

Thinking about getting your youngster into some form of sporting activity? If you are, consider the following:

For children from 5 and up years of age. It is intended as a non- contact activity and our qualified coaches cater for all skill levels. During the initial weeks the aim is to teach the fundamentals of throwing, catching, hitting and team play. As the name implies, rather than hit a pitched ball participants hit a ball from a batting tee. As players gain confidence they are gradually introduced to game situations.

Whilst initially there are varying degrees of confidence, by the end of the program the children have achieved many positive outcomes including

improved hand/ eye coordination skills

develop new friendships and have fun

the opportunity to participate in a team environment

Rookie Ball will be a programme considered in 2014 if numbers permit. It caters for children aged 8 and up  who may have already played regular school or club Tee Ball or even played some junior cricket. It involves players learning to hit a pitched ball and play fielding positions in game situations. The emphasis is on teaching players the fundamentals of baseball and getting them ready for competitive junior baseball. Selection of participants in the Rookie Ball squad is at the discretion of the club Tee Ball coaches as we need to ensure that participants are able to cope with the requirements at this level.

Some of the likely benefits of Rookie Ball are:

a non-contact alternative to footy or soccer

a chance for young cricketers to improve their throwing skills and hand /eye coordination during winter

an easier transition towards junior baseball (Under 13 upwards)

meet new friends and have fun
