Tball update June 2015

15 June 2015

TBALL 2015 13/6/15

TBALL is going along well. The numbers remain about 20 each week and there is no doubt that the skills are developing. The drills that are done in the first 30 minutes or so of each session are being taken in and then displayed during the games. As coaches we watch and to see a young player make a great stop of a hard hit ball after many weeks of missing them makes our day complete. And when we see players instinctively making plays at the ‘right’ bases we know we are on the right track.

The coaching stocks remain high - last Saturday while coach Peter rested his man flu we were again well served by Steve Williams, Adrian Rice, David Hair, James Holley, and Ben Utting. And we must not forget the behind the scenes work of Rob Leary as he takes care of collecting fees, distributing tops (the new ones finally arrived!), chasing up caps and generally going all the paperwork.

It was great to be able to watch 2 games in action – perhaps not 9 per side but it does mean more times at bat and more chances to practice the fielding.

Many thanks to Megan Utting for the after game treat which is the real reason we think that the players keep coming each week. We have no volunteer for next week so if someone wants to put their hand up please call Peter on 0401906515 before Thursday night. We always have the fall back of coach Peter whipping something up!

Keep up the good KNOX TBALLERS – you are doing really well and getting better each week.

As well as some very good youngsters we are fortunate to have a group of supportive and enthusiastic parents – and in some cases grand parents.

T Ball report 9/5/2015

11 May 2015

TBALL has now had three sessions and is shaping as our best year yet. Numbers are nearing 20 each week and there is the prospect of a few more in the coming weeks. The pleasing aspect is not only the returning players but the new ones – some children of current players some who have responded to notices of the program.

Last Saturday we had 17 players (with 3 apologies due to illness) and nine – yes 9! – coaches with senior experience (Steve Williams, Chris Williams, Adrian Rice, David Hair, Dylan Archer, James Holley, Geoff Williams, Ben Utting and Peter Williams). Talk about player to coach ratio!!!!

The sessions are broken into about 30 or 40 minutes of drills where the correct basics of throwing, catching, fielding, batting and base running are taught and then about 40 of 50 minutes of playing. With numbers so high we can run 2 games so each player gets a greater involvement.
Thus far the skill levels are looking quite impressive – especially for a group which is decidedly younger than last year’s. What is even more impressive is the look of this group in their KNOX tops and caps! And of course the after game treats from CANTEEN NANNA SUE are going down as well as ever.
